Theaters and auditoriums can be really cool places to be, given their purpose. It’s what theaters and auditoriums are used for that makes us suggest that there are secrets to keeping these spaces clean. During a movie or play, the lights over the seating areas will either be completely turned off or dimmed. This leaves room for a lot of dirty secrets – pun intended!
What we’re saying is that you may not be able to see what needs to be cleaned, but the saying, “ignorance is bliss,” doesn’t apply to good business. That said, here are the secrets to keeping your theatre and/or auditorium space clean and tidy:
Garbage First
It’s no shame that theaters and auditoriums can be pretty littered with garbage after a movie, play, or other stage-based show. It should serve as a good sign. People came, got comfortable, enjoyed themselves, and left happy.
The secret to keeping the space tidy is to comprehensively remove all garbage first, before spending time or effort tidying it up in other ways. From the outer rows in, or vice versa, go through each row one by one, making sure to check under seats and in between cushions for all garbage.
Spot Cleaning
It would be almost impossible to clean every seat or linen surface with the intensity of spot cleaning. That’s why it’s called spot cleaning.
Turn all of the lights on in your theater or auditorium and, along with a helping hand (preferably one with a flashlight in it, aimed at where you’re spot cleaning), go through each seat one by one and spot clean every stain and blemish with the appropriate solution and materials.
Sweep & Mop
Following the same navigation as the first two steps, sweep up or vacuum all aisles and rows. Use a handheld vacuum for the hard-to-reach areas. Once the entire space has been swept or vacuumed, wet mop the non-carpeted areas.
Disinfect…Everything!
After removing all of the garbage, spot cleaning the entire space, sweeping and mopping it, you may feel satisfied by your efforts – and you should. However, your job isn’t done. Disinfecting is the final boss that you have to defeat. Front to back, top to bottom, disinfect every surface in your theater or auditorium. Make sure you have the right protective gear on, so as not to inhale or come into too much contact with disinfecting chemicals.
A Real Secret
After such a multi-layered cleaning process, airing out your theater or auditorium is a good idea. Switch your ventilation systems on and work them a bit while you open the entrance doors and backstage exits.
The cherry-on-top secret? Air fresheners. Most of the cleaning work that you and your staff have done may go unnoticed by visitors. The trick in making the space noticeably tidy is making it smell tidy. Depending on the size of your space, invest in air fresheners or scented candles.
