There is no one-size-fits all commercial facility cleaning checklist or routine. Every commercial facility, whether an office, warehouse, or other, presents its own list of needs and has its own hidden or hard to reach nooks and crannies. The framework or principles of cleaning any commercial facility definitely have some common denominators, though.
Beyond this, your formula for cleaning your commercial facility is yours – no one should know it better! Here are three tips for you to use when planning and creating a checklist for cleaning your commercial facility:
Commercial Cleaning: Do a Group WalkthroughÂ
The best cleaning is done with a plan, a checklist, and a schedule for routine cleaning. The best plans, checklists, and schedules are put together through the collaboration of multiple sources. Even if you alone are able to walk through your commercial facility and do a good job of noticing problem areas or things that need to be cleaned, there’s a good chance that you’ll miss what one of your colleagues won’t.Â
Our first tip is to set aside the time to do a group walkthrough of your commercial facility, and make it everyone’s responsibility to make note of things and areas that need to be cleaned, as well as suggestions on how to maintain cleanliness moving forward.
Commercial Cleaning: Target Your Problem Areas (or Spots, or Corners, etc…)
There is a good chance that one or more areas of your commercial facility, or corners, or things, will need to be spot cleaned or deep cleaned, versus most of the rest of your facility which will require the same or similar attention and effort.Â
For example, if your commercial facility has carpets indoors, the high traffic areas are likely dirtier and more run down than the low traffic areas, and may need to be professionally steamed. Another example: if your facility is a warehouse, and you haven’t displaced or removed inventory recently to get under the shelves, then you may want to start by doing so and bringing the impossible-to-reach areas up to par with the rest of the warehouse.
Commercial Cleaning: Dust, Dust, Dust!
We cannot stress enough the importance of dusting, even when there is no visible collection of dust anywhere in your commercial facility, whether in both high and low traffic areas. Why? Dust is a popular vehicle for airborne viruses such as COVID-19, and also other germs and bacteria.Â
Also, it’s likely that if you wait until you can clearly see dust building up around your commercial facility, that a lot of dust has travelled in and out and through your ventilation systems. This means that your A/C system – vents, filters, and all – may need to be serviced and cleaned separately. If it’s been a while since you’ve last given attention to this, then your filters may need to be replaced.
